Is Ghee Good for Health?

By Kapiva Editorial

An all-natural dairy powerhouse, desi cow ghee has been the staple of almost every Indian household for as long as one can remember! Yet, what is amusing is that its usage isn’t half as popular as it should be. It’s a mystery that has forever eluded us – whether desi cow ghee is good for health. Let’s look at it objectively. Pure ghee is a by-product of milk, which of course, is the same as butter, but only free of additives, preservatives, or any form of trans fat. So does that make pure ghee good? We will leave that to you to figure out.

A staple and with good reason, pure ghee is a powerhouse of the best antioxidants and a definitive source of Vitamin E, primarily known to reduce free radicals in the human body and thus prevent cellular damage. So, what does that mean? Simple. That pure ghee has anti-ageing properties too.

The benefits aren’t restricted to just that. Free radicals are responsible for weakening the human body’s cells, which leads to a reduction in immunity and thereby makes you susceptible to diseases. In addition to Vitamin E, pure ghee also harbours the best antioxidants and healthy amounts of Vitamin D, A, and even K. The nutrients are directly linked to bone development, building immunity, and regulating blood calcium levels.

If that isn’t enough, pure ghee is also a high source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which is well known to promote a healthy heart and cardiovascular system.

Pure ghee isn’t used just as a kitchen staple but also as a product of natural moisturization for skin and scalp. Who knew, right? The unconventional usage doesn’t stop there. It has been well noted in the past that practices of Ayurveda use desi cow ghee when it comes to treating burns and scrapes. The reason is that pure ghee contains large quantities of butyrate that helps soothe inflammation. That makes pure ghee an anti-inflammatory too.

Are you lactose intolerant? No problem. Desi cow ghee barely contains trace amounts of milk sugar, aka ‘Lactose’ which triggers the allergy to dairy products. So, lactose intolerants can also grab a spoonful to add health to their meals.

A2 Desi Cow Ghee contains all the goodness of the desi cow ghee and more. Made from curd and not cream, A2 Desi Cow Ghee provides you with all the good essential fats that help maintain a healthy heart. It meets up to 90% of your daily Omega-3 fatty acid requirement, helps ease joint pain, aids weight loss, and contains a good portion of good cholesterol. Milk for this desi cow ghee is procured from the Tharparkar cows – a cow breed indigenous to the Thar Desert of India. These cows are grass-fed, not factory-farmed, and are free from cross-breeding. The milk obtained from these cows has lesser fat content than the milk from Jersey cows. It is easier to make pure ghee from Jersey cows (since only 2 litres of milk is required to make desi cow ghee).

On the other hand, manufacturing Pure Desi A2 Ghee from Tharparkar cow milk (which has lesser fat content) is difficult. Around 7 litres of milk is needed to make this one pure desi cow ghee bottle, which gives Kapiva A2 Desi Cow Ghee its unique, nutty flavour.

We do what’s difficult. Because when it comes to your health, we take #NoShortcuts.

Here’s the kicker – Pure desi cow ghee has low moisture content and a shelf life of almost a year. You read that right – a year, and that too without refrigeration. We rest our case.
