How To Pick A Good Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is known to lead to many health benefits, including weight loss, improved blood sugar levels, relief from indigestion and a decreased risk of heart disease and cancer.

There are many food brands that provide ACV in the market nowadays. But buying the right kind can sometimes be a slightly difficult task, especially if you are buying this product for the first time.

Before we get into how to determine good quality ACV, let’s understand how ACV is made. It is a very simple two-step procedure. In the best kind of ACV, first yeast is added to the juice of fresh apples to break their sugar down and convert the fresh apple juice into alcohol. A bacteria is then added which converts the alcohol into acetic acid. This bacteria is what is famously known as “The Mother” because this is what acts as a catalyst and gives rise to the vinegar. The Mother is the healthiest part as it contains enzymes that help break down food so that your body can use their nutrients.

One of the most important things to look for when you are buying a bottle of ACV is whether it contains The Mother. It is easy to tell if the ACV contains the mother just by looking at it. It either has a cloudy appearance or you will be able to see stringy blobs dangling in the vinegar. If you are unable to tell, then an easier way would be to look at the label to see whether the vinegar still contains The Mother. If it says it has been pasteurized, then the mother has been removed and should be avoided. Unfortunately, a lot of food brands usually remove The Mother because it gives the bottle a cloudy appearance and might make consumers feel that the product might be spoilt. This is most definitely not the case.

Another important thing to check is if the juice is only made with fresh / real apples and not by using apple concentrate or by adding water to apple pulp. Some brands also provide variants of the ACV. For example, with or without honey – this choice depends completely on your personal preference.

Finally, ensure that the brand you select has some experience with sourcing foods and ingredients. Sourcing the right things at the right time is crucial when it comes to health-related products, so that you don’t end up consuming something sub-standard.
